Welcome to Eastbourne Archers

Members of Eastbourne Archery

Based at the Langney Sports Club, Eastbourne, East Sussex we have the benefit of a dedicated archery ground and the use of the sports club facilities.

We are mainly a target club but shoot a field round once a month and an occasional clout.

If you are hoping to take up archery as a sport you will need a beginners course so look through the various pages under the Information button.

If you are an established archer looking for a club in the area first browse through the site and then contact the membership secretary.

The current shooting programme is available as a download as are the club rules, etc.

2011 Eastbourne Open

A cautionary tale

Richard Miller in ladies leggings.
Several of our archers attended the British Barebow Championship held in Essex, most of the attendee's turned up dressed in greens and club colours. As they should.

Unfortunately our friend Richard Miller had worn blue jeans, this is still a big no no, and was promptly told he could not shoot.

So we began asking other archers for help for some appropriate attire that would be acceptable to the judges.

Up pops Wendy who said: "I've got some black tights in the car!"

Blue jeans are not allowed, but nobody challenges a large man in tights shooting a bow.

Thanks to Derek Christie for the photo and to Richard for being a good sport for allowing us to publish it.
Target archery is the most popular form of archery, in which archers shoot at stationary circular targets at varying distances.
Field archery involves shooting at targets of varying (and often unmarked) distance, often in woodland and rough terrain.
Clout is a form of archery in which archers shoot arrows at a flag (known as "the Clout") from a relatively long distance and score points depending on how close each arrow lands to the flag.
